Fixes

Shopify fixes, from real stores.

Each post is one problem we’ve dug into on a store we build or look after: the symptom, why it happens, the fix step by step, and how to check it worked.

  1. Fixed Klaviyo sign-up formsKlaviyo form says thanks but no subscriber is addedA sign-up form shows its thank-you, but the email never reaches your Klaviyo list. The usual causes (double opt-in, the wrong list, the Shopify sync), and the one they miss: custom code that says thanks without checking.
  2. Fixed Meta pixel and trackingMeta custom events not firing on ShopifyYour own fbq calls work when you paste them into the console but never reach Events Manager from the page. On Shopify the pixel often comes from the Facebook & Instagram app and turns up a moment after your script runs, so a one-time check finds no pixel and sends nothing.
  3. Fixed Free shipping bars and marketsFree shipping bar says free, but checkout charges shippingThe basket bar tells the shopper they’ve unlocked free shipping, then checkout adds a delivery charge. Why the bar and your shipping rates drift apart, why one number can’t be right in every market, and how to fix it for good.
  4. Fixed Customer accountsShopify create_customer form not creating customersA sign-up form built on create_customer submits, sends the shopper to the sign-in page, and no customer appears. On Shopify’s current customer accounts the theme no longer registers anyone. What still works, and how we rebuilt a trade application around it.
  5. Fixed Cart scriptsCart quantity resets to 1, or quick clicks leave the wrong items in the cartA script saves a detail on a cart line and the quantity drops to 1. A shopper taps quickly and the cart ends up wrong, or Checkout lands back on the cart. The rules in Shopify’s cart API that catch custom code out, and how to write cart changes that hold.
  6. Fixed Wishlists and cookie consentWishlist hearts do nothing until the shopper accepts cookiesTap a heart and nothing happens, with no error. Wishlist apps such as Swym start only once the shopper agrees to cookies, so anyone who declined or never answered gets dead hearts. Ask for consent when the heart is tapped, and never tell the app it was given when it wasn’t.
  7. Fixed Cart and checkoutCheckout button takes me back to the cart pagePress Checkout and the cart page reloads instead. Often a script stops the button, does its own work, then submits the cart form with form.submit(), which leaves out the one field that tells Shopify to go to checkout.
  8. Fixed Collection filtersShopify size filter shows products that are out of stock in that sizePick a size in the collection filter and products appear that are sold out in it. On its own, Shopify’s Size filter matches on the size existing, not on it being in stock. What the In stock filter fixes, and the theme code that filters by stock and drops dead-end sizes.
