How it works
What goes into a builder.

Built on Shopify’s own pieces
Builders run on Shopify’s own products and discounts, so the basket agrees with the page. Hartnack & Co prices each extra as an add-on product and saves every answer on the order.

The saving, as they pick
The price and the saving move with every choice. On East at Home’s bundle builder the saving tiers fill at 3, 5 and 10 sauces, so shoppers can see what one more is worth.

Tested the way shoppers tap
On a wellness brand’s new theme we tested the free sample limit the way shoppers use a cart: quick taps, a slow connection, two tabs. It found three ways to beat the limit, and we fixed all three.
Questions
What owners ask about builders.
- Does the price update as shoppers pick?
- Yes. Hartnack & Co’s builder shows a running price at the top of the page that updates at every step. On Sensational Eyes, picking one, two or three tubes changes the price, the price per tube and the saving, and the Add to bag button’s price follows.
- Will the basket show the same price?
- Yes. On Sensational Eyes the bag takes the multi-buy saving off each tube and rounds it down, so the tube picker works the saving out per tube the same way. The price on the page is the price in the bag, to the penny.
- Can our team change the questions and options?
- Yes. Each step of Hartnack & Co’s builder is a section in the theme editor, so new options and new products are set up in the admin, not in code.
- Can a quiz build the box for the shopper?
- Yes. Fuzzball’s quiz asks a few questions about each cat and builds a trial box and a monthly plan, spread across the flavours on offer.
- Does the order show what was chosen?
- Yes. A Hartnack & Co order arrives with every answer saved on it, the full spec for the workshop. An East at Home bundle goes into the basket as one line with its contents listed underneath. For a beauty brand (white-label), where one bundle mixes sizes, shoppers fill each size in turn, and sold-out products drop out of the picker.
